Our adventure through the Bankhead National Forest felt like stepping into somewhere from a movie… a place where time slows and the sound of falling water guides you deeper into Alabama’s wild beauty. Each waterfall we visited had it’s own character and magic. We are no where near finished and hope to be able to slow down with building one day to keep exploring in the “The Land of a Thousand Waterfalls.”
Jon and I hiked to these waterfalls in November & December of 2024.
This time of year the weather was crisp, with a light breeze that added to the refreshing atmosphere.
Each waterfall is conveniently a 30 minute drive from our grounds.
The ride there was on a gravel road with beautiful views of moss covered areas.
Our favorite spot was at the edge of the canyon, where the lush vegetation formed a natural frame for the waterfall at Sougahoagdee Falls.
The hike was filled with greenery and canyon views.
We were lucky to see a variety of birds flitting between the trees, adding to the vibrancy of the hike.
Another notable experience was that you can walk with creek views for most of the hike.
The sight of the sunlight glistening off the water was just mesmerizing.
The water fall was beautiful and its sounds were soothing.
This trail offered just the right amount of challenge to keep us engaged without being overwhelming.
We considered it a moderate hike.
Additionally, the reviews on the app were extremely helpful in planning our route and knowing what to expect.
Our best advise would be for you to use the AllTrails App on your cell phone and download the map.
It made us appreciate the beauty of nature even more, undistracted by digital devices.
The cell signal was almost non existent for us.
Holmes Chapel Falls was an easy hike that you go to the top of the waterfall. The stone bottomed creek was beautiful. This also can be found on the AllTrails App. We were in and out of the trail in 30 minutes tops.
Caney Creek Falls is a moderate to difficult hike in places. The falls were also beautiful. We enjoyed every minute together. We actually carried our two year old with us all the way. There are two trails on AllTrails for this waterfall. We recommend using the one that does’nt charge to get in. Also, wear good hiking sandals.
Watching the water flow and listening to the birds made for an enchanting experience.
We honestly could hang out at the waterfalls all day.
Every aspect of the hike was like a breath of fresh air for our souls. We even took some time to meditate by the falls, allowing nature’s beauty to surround us.
A great place to forget your troubles and take it all in.
These adventures are some we’ll definitely remember fondly.
